Workshop Information

Workshop I

The Draper Manuscripts: Genealogical Gleanings - Seth Smith

10:15 - 11:30 a.m.

The Lyman C. Draper Manuscripts cover 1750-1815 and hold a wealth of information about the “Trans-Allegheny West”.

These include:

  • letters
  • interviews
  • legal documents
  • family and personal records
  • land deeds
  • muster rolls
  • military discharges
  • business records

Reference Specialist Seth Smith will focus on Society’s microfilmed collection of the Draper Manuscripts and how genealogists can use the collection to aid their research.

Workshop II

Writing a Memoir - Cathy Salter

1:30 - 2:45 p.m

Local columnist and nationally published writer, Cathy Salter, will teach participants about the art of documenting personal experience.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Win Horner, who was orginally scheduled, will be unable to attend the conference and present her experience with memoir writing

Schedule of Events

  • 9:00 a.m. Registration and Vendor Area Opens
    Representatives from historical and genealogical societies will staff vendor tables throughout the day. Workshop sessions will be held in the Society’s Newspaper Library.

  • 10:15 - 11:30 a.m. Workshop I -
    The Draper Manuscripts: Genealogical Gleanings
  • 11:30 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. Lunch on Your Own
  • 1:15 p.m. Afternoon Announcements
  • 1:30 - 2:45 p.m. Workshop II -
    Writing a Memoir
  • 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. Browse and View Vendor Area Vendor area will close at 4:00 p.m.
  • 4:30 p.m. Society Closes

County and regional genealogical societies are invited to send representatives to Family History Day at The State Historical Society of Missouri. Display tables and booths are free of charge, but space is limited and reservations are required. Due to space constraints, enrollment in the workshops will be limited.
